Proud parents
Torgeson Island

Like most penguins, both parents raise the chicks. The chicks are covered in a dark grey down. For the first 3 weeks after hatching, the Adelie parents will brood. Once the chick is large enough to be left alone, both parents will go off in search of food to soothe the ravage appetite of their offspring.

Petermann Island

When the chicks have matured and lost all their down, the parents molt for several weeks. During this phase, they don't eat, rarely move and tend to resemble their furry toy counterparts.
