BILLY
(Pamela Stephenson) |
For decades now, the boundless energy and wit of Billy
Connolly has entralled people from all over the world. Born
and raised in a poor area in Glasgow, Scotland, Billy overcame
some severe family hardships to follow the one thing in
life which gave him joy. Once he discovered his destiny,
he never looked back and this book reveals how no matter
what happens, Billy never looked back as he got on with
his life.
Written by his wife of 20 years, Pamela Stephenson, one
expects some pretty probing insights. Since I am not an
ardent fan of Billy Connolly, I don't quite know what I
was expecting, but given Pamela Stephensons former profession
as a comedian herself in the BBC series, "Not the 9
o'clock news,' I guess I expected it to be at least slightly
better written! The story is there, but the narration is
a little 'light' and the segue's are dreadful. As to the
probing insights - I am sure they are there, but if you
haven't followed Billy's career for decades, then you wouldn't
know what was new..
However, despite being a bit nonplussed about the way this
biography is written, I did enjoy reading this book and
was blown away by how many movies Billy Connolly has done.
This is a man who is not only a successful comedian, but
also a successful actor! I did feel compelled to rent some
video's of his movies after reading this, and would probably
like to see him on stage now...
