Love's Executioner and other
Tales of Psychotherapy, Irvin D. Yalom 1989, Penguin
Group |
Irvin D. Yalom is a Professor of Psychiatry at the Stanford
University and has written several books about pschotherapy
and his personal experiences as a psychiatrist. This book
is one of the latter - his first excursion into relating some
patient cases (heavily disguised). It is an enlightening book
as he eloquently describes not only how his patients come
to grips with their problems, but also his impressions and
reactions throughout the sessions. Its a very real book -
sometimes there are no ultimate solutions, but the reward
comes seeing the people transform as they regain control of
one aspect of their life. Love's Executioner contains several
short stories, each one focusing on a different patient and
their very different problems and ways of tackling them.
