 |
THE
ELEVENTH COMMANDMENT (1998) |
Sub-category:
Espionage
The plot: The CIA's unofficial
assassin, Connor Fitzgerald, find himself being forced to
confront the CIA's 11th commandment as he is betrayed at every
turn.
Comment: In later years,
Archer seems to have found a safe, simple formula for his
work and he sticks with it in this novel. The result: A novel
with no real depth and with only enough imagination to suggest
that he put a bit of creative thought into the plot. Is it
possible that Mr. Archer, distracted by his membership in
the House of Lords, has no more Novel's in him?

AS
THE CROW FLIES (1991) |
Sub-category:
The "Epic" tale
The plot: The story starts
out at the turn of the century in London's East end where
a young Charlie Trumper inherits his Grandfather's fruit and
vegetable barrow. With an entrepreneurial flare, Charlie builds
his business into London's success stories.
Comment:This is a solid,
well-written novel. One is quickly immersed in Charlie's life
and the read is enjoyable from start to finish, 1900 to 1970.
