ORSON SCOTT CARD

I have placed "sizzler ratings" next to books read, even if the review hasn't been added at this time.

Homebody
Lost Boys
Treasure Box

HOMEBODY (1998)

Sub-category: Supernatural suspense
The plot: For Don Lark, life is a chore since the law failed him and his child was killed. With a void in his heart, he drifts around, restoring houses to their former glory. In a small town in North Carolina, Don finds a run down mansion that offers him the chance to get ahead financially. However, the house is hiding some surprises of its own that challenge everything he believes in...
Comment: Although a pleasant story, Card really avoids making this anything but a light supernatural story. More than anything, this novel is just a light, pleasant read with no depth or great plot development.

TREASURE BOX (1996)

Sub-category: Supernatural suspense
The plot: Quentin Fears grows up a recluse after the death of his older sister when he is a child. At the age of 34, he is now rich and alone when he one day spies a woman who reminds him of his sister. Shortly afterwards, he realises what he is missing in life and decides to meet women. Very quickly, he is introduced to Madeleine. They fall in love and get married within weeks - against the advice of Quentin's lawyer. All is blissful until Quentin goes to meet her eccentric family in an grand old house in NE U.S.A. The source of Madeleine's family's strange ways seems to revolve around a box which has been in their family for generations...
Comment: Written almost in a light-hearted vein, nonetheless, Card keeps you turning the page as you wonder what other strange twist will manifest next. In addition, the chracter development and writing style is just plain enjoyable in this novel.
