THE QUEEN OF THE DAMNED (1988)

Sub-category: Vampire/historical
The plot: At the end of the last novel, The Vampire Lestat, we find Vampire Zero, aka the Queen of the Damned, has awoken from her 6000 years of contemplation. Now Lestat, totally smitten by the potent blood of the Queen, must somehow find the strength within him to overcome her charms and fatalistic plans to ensure humanity continues to evolve with no constraints.
Comment: This book started off fast paced and full of intriguing sub-plots, but about half way through, begain to deteriorate into endless philosophising and pedantic tales that take a chapter in what would ordinarily be said in one scentence. And yet, I persevered to the ending, so I guess there is something that keeps you turning pages (although, I admit, there were many pages that I scanned superficially with absolutely nothing penetrating the brain. And you know what? I don't think I missed anything...)

THE VAMPIRE LESTAT (1985)

Sub-category: Vampire/historical
The plot: Resurrected by the noise and vigour of the late 20th Century, the Vampire Lestat emerges from his earthy grave to find that the world knows of his existance. Devouring the novel, Interview with a Vampire, which it told by his 19th century lover, Louis, Lestat comes forward to tell the world his story. As he does so, he gets caught up in the energy of modern civilisation and decided to form a rock band as well.
Comment: Having not seen the movie nor read the book, Interview with a Vampire, I found this book a trial. About halfway through, I rented the video and that didn't help. This book was still a trial to finish off... Very slow uphill slog to get to the end - but I did it. Nice comments: Um, well, despite being slow, it is a very well thought out novel and kudo's to Rice for giving so much depth and character to the mythological vampires...
