Empires
The plot: Richard Armstrong,
a WWII survivor, and Keith Townsend, little rich kid from
Oxford, have both by various means, built successful newspaper
empires. As time goes by, they are pitted against each other
in the quest for ultimate control of global media. In this
ultimate quest, only one can emerge the victor.
Comment: The novel is
well written, and for a first time reader of Archer, probably
a very good novel. But to anyone who has read a lot of his
books, then this theme is getting slightly stale and not
quite up to the same standard as "Kane and Abel" or "As
the Crow Flies."
