ROSEMARY AUBERT

I have placed "sizzler ratings" next to books read, even if the review hasn't been added at this time.

  Firebrand
  A Thousand to One
  Two Kinds of Honey
Free Reign
The Feast of Stephen: An Ellis Portal Mystery

FREE REIGN (1997)

Sub-category: Suspense
The plot: Ellis Portal is a Judge who has fallen from grace and is now squatting in the head waters of the Don, a river that flows through Toronto. One day, as he tends to his little garden, he unearths an unfamiliar hand with a very familiar ring on it. Thus begins a journey from his safe cocoon back to the real world as he tries to work out how that ring ended up on a dead stranger's hand.
Comment: Although Aubert keeps her audience turning the page as one is quite clueless as to what will happen next, the novel is slow and never really picks up speed. However, it is a nicely wirtten first book, vaguely reminiscent of the styles of Patricia Cornwell and Kathy Reichs without all the forensic detail. If the developments at the end of this novel are anything to go by, I look forward to Ms Aubert's novel with anticipation.

An absolute sizzler of a movie - A must see!
A scorcher of a good movie; still capable of riveting you to your seat
Low flame burner; a pleasant piece of mindless brain candy
A fizzler of a movie which will have you counting zzzzzz's...
