hasn't been added at this time.

The plot: Ellis Portal
is a Judge who has fallen from grace and is now squatting
in the head waters of the Don, a river that flows through
Toronto. One day, as he tends to his little garden, he unearths
an unfamiliar hand with a very familiar ring on it. Thus begins
a journey from his safe cocoon back to the real world as he
tries to work out how that ring ended up on a dead stranger's
hand.
Comment: Although Aubert
keeps her audience turning the page as one is quite clueless
as to what will happen next, the novel is slow and never really
picks up speed. However, it is a nicely wirtten first book,
vaguely reminiscent of the styles of Patricia
Cornwell and Kathy
Reichs without all the forensic detail. If the developments
at the end of this novel are anything to go by, I look forward
to Ms Aubert's novel with anticipation.
