Sub-category:
Global Finance
The plot: Former Chairman
of the U.S. Federal Reserves, Charles Black, is arrested when
entering Switzerland for an obligatory top secret meeting
of global financial leaders. Evidence is presented to suggest
he has used the inside knowledge his former position gave
him to create unspeakable wealth for him and his wife upon
retirement. Black knows he is innocent, but the disclosure
of his possible use of insider knowledge causes all his allies
to desert him and leave him to uncover the truth by himself.
Comment: This novels starts
off with a flying leap into the giddy world of selling and
buying derivatives, shorts and longs and then grinds to a
hault about a third of the way in... From there until just
before the end, the book kind of dawdles along, feeling almost
'70's' in its style and leaving you wondering what happened
to the fast pace at the start. However, the book picks up
towards the end for a satisfactory dash for finish.
