Stephen Baxter: Hard core SF, either near future alternatives for Earth or alters physic constants of the Universe
Greg Bear: Diverse author with novels ranging from fantasy to distant future SF specualtion
Orson Scott Card: Diverse author whose best stuff involves strategy games but he is just as creative in the realm of alternate pasts, SF 'saga's' , fantasy and some dreadful Mormon/SF stuff (that has to avoided...)
Caleb Carr - near future Future adventures
Arthur C. Clarke: One of the oldest and greatest SF writers this century; writes about near future Earth history
Michael Flynn: Near future stories about the putting the Earth back in the race for the stars
Peter F. Hamilton: Distant Earth future/space opera's; specialises in the advance derivatives of genetic engineering

Neal Stephenson: Earth future where the Earth is divided into segments based on one's use of bio-engineering and the cyber technologies
