AMERICAN
PIE (1999) |
Starring: Chris Klein,
Jason Biggs, Natasha Lyonne, Thomas Ian Nicholson
The plot: Four high school
guys make a pact to loose their virginity before the end of
their final Prom, which is 3 weeks away. At the time, Kevin
is the only one with a girlfriend and she wants to hear those
three fearsome words from him before doing it. The rest are
left to fend for themselves...
Comment: OK. It sounds
like a terrible scenario but this little gem of a film is
very funny and not as crass as the teen flicks of the '80's
like Animal House. Instead, we actually have 4 guys who actually
look like they could be in high school, and instead of focusing
on beer, parties and sex, this movie portrays the adolescent
male anxieties in a more realistic - if very humerous - light.
The positions Jim gets caught in as he explored various options
available to him by his father will have you in hysterics.
As an aside, Chris Klein, the Keanu Reeves look-a-like is
certainly proving to have a much wider range of talent than
Reeves has managed to show so far. Possibly someone to watch
out for?!

GO
(1999) |
Starring:Jane
Krakowski, Scott Wolfe
The plot:
The tale starts off in the supermarket where Ronna, a check-out
chick, is rather desperate to raise $380 to pay her rent.
She exchanges shifts with Simon who wants to go Las Vegas.
As she works Simon's shift, two guys approach her about obtaining
some drugs since Simon is away. The tale unfolds from each
of the characters point of view.
Comment:
Truth be told, at this stage, the movie has more familiar
faces than familiar names, but don't let that deter you from
seeing a movie with a tightly written script and excellent
performances from all the cast. The critics liked this dark
little picture, and it is funny despite the somewhat depressing
topic. Well worth seeing!
